Five long years

Wow, 2008 has really shot past me. Not sure how the rest of the world feels, but New Years 2008 feels like a recent occurrence. Next thing I know 3rd quarter is ending, football season is reaching the midway point, and I am about to become yet another year older. Of course today isn't about me or my worries. Today isn't about the year shooting by at a pace reserved for NASCAR drivers and the autobahn. Rather today is the day that every year I think about a friend of mine I lost on October 1, 2003. I guess the most amazing thing is he's been gone for five years already. That's enough time to go all the way through college AND find a decent first job. In that amount of time you can go from 16 (getting your license) to 21 (getting a DUI). Of course, Neil never reached 21. He got close though. There are a lot of memories I will always have of him, but unfortunately they are all that remain. I'm going to visit his grave tonight and think about a lot of things...
